Bold design, avant-garde luxury, the first rooftop pool in the whole city, the W Amsterdam offers its guests a unique meeting place to connect and exchange
We recently discovered this venue, which impressed us with its futuristic design and modern ambience.
This new W brings a touch of New York energy (the birthplace of W) to the Dutch capital, with its emblematic “whatever/whenever” service and cutting-edge, high-energy music program. Located just a few steps from lively Dam Square and the Royal Palace, the hotel features WET DECK®, the city’s first rooftop pool, as well as original culinary spaces such as THE DUCHESS and MR PORTER.
“The long-awaited opening of W Amsterdam brings a fresh new hotel offering to the heart of the city,” said Anthony Ingham, Global Brand Manager for W Hotels Worldwide. “Amsterdam has become a leading city for design, music and fashion – areas that W Hotels and our customers around the world have long been passionate about. As one of Europe’s most popular destinations, we’re excited to welcome both international and local guests to enjoy unexpected new experiences.”
Located in the heart of Amsterdam’s city center, the hotel features 238 rooms in two emblematic buildings: the former telephone exchange (“Central”) and the historic premises of the KAS Bank (“Bank”). The W Amsterdam was designed by Office WINHOV and Baranowitz Kronenberg Architects, who worked with local craftsmen to restore these historic buildings, adding contemporary features inspired by their storied past.
“The avant-garde spirit of Amsterdam is a perfect match for the philosophy of the W Hotels brand. We are delighted to introduce a new kind of hotel offering in the Netherlands in partnership with Europe Hotels | Private Collection and its owner, Liran Wizman, who shares our vision for W Hotels,” said Michael Wale, President of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide for the Europe, Africa and Middle East region. “The W Amsterdam, which is our first W Hotels in the country, reinforces Starwood’s commitment to expanding our presence in this important European market.”
Communicate and exchange in the heart of Amsterdam
The Central building offers 172 elegant rooms, while the 66 rooms in the Bank building will open early next year. The hotel will feature a total of 21 suites, three WOW suites and two extraordinary Extreme WOW suites – the W brand’s interpretation of the presidential suite. Offering an impressive 183 square meters of space with innovative design, an open spa bathroom, a dressing room and a large round bed with extraordinary views of the Royal Palace, the Extreme WOW suite is the most glamorous place in town. The W Amsterdam offers SPG Keyless, the accommodation industry’s first keyless access system that allows guests to use their smartphone or mobile device as a key.
The W Lounge, W Hotels’ twist on the traditional lobby, is located on the sixth floor of the Central building, offering guests an original and chic experience. With its four outdoor terraces and picture windows, guests can enjoy spectacular 360-degree views of canal-side houses and cultural sites. Overlooking the Royal Palace and the lively historic center, WET DECK® is Amsterdam’s first rooftop pool. At 22 meters long and heated in winter, WET DECK is the place where style-conscious Amsterdamers can meet for alfresco cocktails in an idyllic setting overlooking the city. Also located on the rooftop, MR PORTER combines the qualities of a modern steakhouse with the sophisticated ambience of a chic, high-energy lounge.
Across the street in the Bank building, THE DUCHESS restaurant opened in June to rave reviews, combining an eclectic London influence with Viennese grandeur. The building is also home to the avant-garde FIT® fitness center; a spasituated in the bank’s former vaults; and XBANK, a 700-square-meter exhibition gallery with a creative incubator concept for young local design, fashion and music talent – all of which will be unveiled in early 2016 along with the rest of the rooms.
The W Amsterdam will offer 414 square meters of ultra-modern meeting and event space, including the Great Room, which can be divided into three meeting rooms.
“The opening of the W Amsterdam marks the culmination of Amsterdam’s rapid growth into one of Europe’s most popular destinations for jet-setting travelers,” said Liran Wizman, owner of the W Amsterdam and Europe Hotels | Private Collection. “With its innovative lifestyle programming and two signature restaurants, the W Amsterdam will bring something new and exciting to the Dutch capital’s hotel landscape.”
