Comics Selection

Today, superheroes are everywhere, thanks in no small part to film adaptations.
If you’re a fan, or just want to go back to the source, here’s a selection of the best comics of the moment.
Born in 1939 thanks to Bob Kane, Batman celebrates his 75th birthday this year.
Without superpowers, and very different from Superman, he nevertheless managed to win over the general public with his highly original personality and adventures. To celebrate this anniversary, Urban Comics is offering 5 major stories (by Frank Miller, Jim Lee…) in world-exclusive black and white editions. But also the Batman (photo) and Joker anthologies, which bring together legendary stories by these two characters. You can also find Batman in his monthly magazine, Batman Saga, and in the3rd volume of the adventures of the Justice League (The Throne of Atlantis), which was particularly successful.
Last but not least, don’t miss the monthly “Superman Saga”, which contains the two comic-book events, Superman Unchained (by Snyder, Lee and Nguyen) and Superman/Wonder Woman (by Soule and Daniel).
For its part, Delcourt has the good idea of (re)discovering Snoopy and Schulz’s little world of the Peanuts through a compilation of the Sunday Pages (from the 70’s), entirely recolored and never before published in France. The first volume has just been published, with two more to follow. Delightful, funny and tender.
Finally, the second volume of Superworld, helmed by Frenchman Jean-Marc Rivière and Italian Francesca Follini, is now available.
On the DVD side, “Du Sang et des Larmes” (M6 Vidéo) is a must-see. This realistic war film, inspired by a true story, follows a Navy Seal commando unit trapped during a mission gone wrong in Afghanistan. The cast, dominated by Mark Wahlberg, Peter Berg’s direction, the photography and the script will have you glued to your seat.
