Mâcon La Roche vineuse 2011

The Domaine Chanson, exceptional in its size (45 hectares) and the diversity of its terroirs, is one of the great estates in the Côte de Beaune. Gilles de Courcel, who presides over Chanson’s destiny, and Jean-Pierre Confuron, who is in charge of vinification, do not hesitate to cross the boundaries of the Côte d’Or to discover particular terroirs and apply Chanson’s know-how to other Burgundy appellations, some of which are less well known but certainly worth a visit.

La Roche Vineuse is a small terroir located in the Saône-et-Loire department, close to Pouilly-Fuissé, in the communes of La Roche Vineuse, Hurigny and Chevagny-les-Chevrières.
This terroir was shaped by the uplift of the Alps and the collapse of the Bresse basin, which caused the Mâconnais mountains to slope eastwards. This gave rise to the terroirs around Roche de Solutré and Vergisson, which produce the famous Pouilly-Fuissé, and the special terroir around Mont de Cras and Mont Garcin, which produces Mâcon la Roche Vineuse. The soils of the Roche Vineuse appellation are clay-limestone, dating from the Quaternary period, and surprisingly, their structure is identical to that of Burgundy terroirs further north (Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits). This explains Gilles de Courcel and Jean-Pierre Confuron’s interest in this particular terroir.

The 2011 vintage has a pale yellow color and reveals intense aromas of orange blossom, white and exotic fruits. The palate is full-bodied on the attack, round and dense, finishing with tension and bringing out all the freshness of this particular terroir.
In short, a fresh, convivial wine to discover this spring or summer.
