Ardbeg announces its next Limited Edition: Ardbog

Lovers of peated whiskey are going to love it, as the Islay distillery launches its new
whisky Ardbog in a limited edition.

“Ardbog” follows “Ardbeg Galileo”, awarded Best Single Malt in the World at the “World Whisky Awards 2013”.

Dr. Bill Lumsden, Director of Distillation and Creation, explains: “The combination of all Ardbog’s elements evokes ancient, primary, salty bogs, but also recalls Ardbeg’s classic, intense notes of leather, butterscotch and smoke.”
Ardbog ages for ten years in old American oak bourbon casks and Manzanilla sherry casks formerly from Spain. These give it a distinctive salty texture
which accentuates the salty aromas already dominant in the whisky. Dr. Bill Lumsden continues: “Ardbog
combines two different styles of maturation to create a new aromatic experience.
As with all Ardbeg, the aim is to achieve the right balance between a wide range of aromas, including mocha, cloves and even anchovies! This dichotomy of savory and sweet aromas underscores the character of Ardbeg, one of the most complex of all Islay Malts.”

Every year, the Ardbeg distillery organizes Ardbeg Day celebrations in the four corners
of the world. In 2013, the event has been renamed Ardbog Day, in honour of the limited edition that will be
available from June 1. In addition to tasting Ardbog whisky, Ardbog Day participants will be able to take part in a range of archaeology-themed activities and events by ”
excavating” Ardbeg’s past and the peat bogs of Islay.

Ardbog aged for ten years in
Spanish sherry casks formerly destined for Manzanilla, then paired with traditional Ardbeg
of the same age, matured in American oak casks formerly destined for bourbon.
The Manzanilla lends the whisky marine aromas, while the bourbon casks balance it
with the creaminess of maple syrup.
