OSSES AND ITS CREATORS

This weekend, the village of Ossès invites the public to discover the work of several craftsmen. All are driven by the same desire: to showcase quality products, handcrafted using specific skills. In some cases, these products call on typically Basque techniques, evoking the identity of this land.

Handicrafts and gastronomy will be represented. Proof of Basque savoir-vivre, the good and the beautiful will be brought together and evoked in concert. Ossès is home to a dozen craftsmen and creators. They have joined forces to form the Ortzaize association. Among them is Don Quichosse, a company creating espadrilles entirely by hand.

It’s also what drives the creators of Goicoechea.

The company’s history began in 1960 with Jean-Baptiste Goicoechea. Then came Michel, his son, and Terexa, his daughter-in-law. Recently, their sons decided to join in this superb experience.

Clay pottery, glazed or unglazed, creations evolve according to ideas and research. This notion of the perpetual quest for innovation inhabits these Ossès craftsmen.

To enhance the festivities, this weekend will feature tastings of local produce and cooking classes with chefs. The Basque soul is also revealed through music, with a variety of groups including Los Cincos Bilbainos and Erramun Marticorena.
