Paris Picnic is the first picnic delivery service in Paris.
A picnic in Paris is great, we all agree.
But what if it were even better?
What if we took the hassle out of preparing it (between the almost unfeasible errands, especially on Sundays, and the often equally haphazard division of “who does what”, we also agree)? That’s what a couple of young American expatriates have decided to propose. Katya Kroupnik and Patrick Johnson, who have been living in Paris for 2 years, have teamed up with the L\Inconnu and Sunken Chip! team to develop their “Paris Picnic” concept, officially launched at the beginning of June.
What to do?
Go to the website or app, choose your picnic, enter the number of guests, the delivery location and the wine you’d like… and voilà! Enjoy your picnic.
So yes, we’ll say it right up front: when all the French foodies in Paris are importing burgers, hot dogs, cupcakes and other US-oriented delights, it’s really three pure American products that are now offering us the chance to rediscover the true Parisian picnic experience!
Arriving directly from Washington DC at the beginning of 2012 for professional reasons, the couple Patrick / Katya and their friend Daniel literally fell in love (or almost) with this special moment of sharing that a picnic in Paris represents. They experience their adopted city through the prism of picnics, in parks, on bridges or riverbanks, just about everywhere – and find they’re not the only ones! After all, a picnic, they say, is also a fun and inexpensive way to get together with friends, simply and without any fuss.
And then there’s the history… and the art! Picnics have a strong tradition in France. The couple fell in love with the social object of the picnic… to the point where, one day, they came up with the not-so-crazy idea of making a living out of it. Because then again, wouldn’t the moment be even more perfect if you could simply transport yourself to the Buttes Chaumont or
Luxembourg without going to the grocery store? Whether you’re a true Parisian or a tourist passing through the City of Light, if you improvise a picnic, if you don’t plan ahead, you’re potentially going to encounter quite a few difficulties… and in fact, you might not eat so well!
This is how the “Paris Picnic” concept gradually found its way into the minds of our young Yankees.
Three picnic formulas are currently on offer:
Le Classique: A bottle of wine, a crusty baguette, mineral water
. A selection of French cheeses and charcuterie, salad
of the day (e.g. carrot-ginger),
some of the day’s market produce + homemade potato chips, dessert.
Picnic for 2: €55 / +8 euros for a grand cru /
+13 euros with Champagne
Le Chic: a more chic version of Le Classique, including
champagne, foie gras, macaroons and other refined French
specialties! Picnic for 2: 85 € (including a
bottle of champagne).
Le Bonbon: a sweet picnic! With champagne, fresh fruit, fine chocolates and a selection
of pastries. Picnic for 2: €55
