NEW EXPLORATION OF KNOW-HOW

The Fondation d’entreprise Martell is a cultural center where tercentenary heritage and contemporary creation, excellence and curiosity, local roots and international influences come together to bring to life the identity carried by the modernist Gâtebourse building erected in 1928 in the heart of Cognac. The Fondation d’entreprise Martell is a creative ecosystem where arts and culture, exhibitions and residencies, traditional know-how and digital explorations, visual creations and living practices, permanent works and federative events come together. A central tourist and cultural destination in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region and unique in Europe, its innovative programming is accessible to all audiences curious to share novel, forward-looking experiences. Launched in 2016 in Cognac, the Fondation d’entreprise Martell has already hosted projects by French artist Vincent Lamouroux and then Spanish architects SelgasCano during its first two years of prefiguration. To mark the inauguration in 2018 of a vast 900 m2 ground-floor space dedicated to immersive installations, the French company Adrien M & Claire B unveiled an interactive work entitled L’ombre de la vapeur , which is now on show at the Gaîté Lyrique in Paris. In 2019, the Foundation programmed the first edition of the MétaMusiques festival: 72 hours of concerts, a total listening experience free of labels.

Places to be

Until JANUARY 2, 2022

IMMERSIVE EXHIBITION

On the ground floor of the Fondation, the group exhibition Places to be presents a house made up of eleven rooms, juxtaposed like a Cluedo board on a human scale. Each room is entrusted to a designer, who must make it habitable and usable by visitors, potential occupants of the premises. For this exhibition, the Fondation is calling on fourteen designers of seven nationalities who have never before exhibited or worked together. Most of the works on display have never been exhibited before. A real editor’s favorite!

Ateliers du faire
CREATIVE RESIDENCY PROGRAM
Starting this summer, the Foundation is inaugurating its Ateliers du faire, dedicated to experimenting with different skills (glass, ceramics, wood, paper and textiles). Local and international craftspeople are brought together with artists and designers for cross-disciplinary residencies.
The Last Supper, a bronze furniture ensemble by Guillaume Bardet, is on display. Some Places to be designers produce their projects on site.
