As part of the “Yvelines font leur cinéma” program running from August 20 to 30, 2015, ( full program at www.yvelines.fr/cinéma ), the Petit Trianon is resurrecting the light, pastel atmosphere of Marie-Antoinette. An avalanche of creamy treats, and champagnes await 200 lucky guests, to relive Sofia Coppola’s film in its very setting.
Sofia Coppola’s films are like quests for the mystery and charms of adolescence. Young, far too young to become Queen of France, she makes us fall under Marie-Antoinette’s frivolous charm and makes us want to shamelessly eat brioche. A cinematographer with an eye for detail, the director films Versailles like never before: from Lenôtre’s gardens to Mansart’s Hall of Mirrors.
Marie-Antoinette is also Kirsten Dunst at her best. The director’s muse, she brings a resolutely modern fragility and freshness to the woman who was nicknamed “the Austrian” by the entire court. No scorn for this character, but a new tenderness for a child who tried to survive the weight of protocol, and situations that were beyond her, enclosed in a world of appearances where the Petit Trianon was her only space of freedom, a place to breathe, where she recreated a countryside, a fertile, wild universe, where she could exist sheltered from convention.
Set in the gardens of the Petit Trianon palace, the Waldorf Astoria Hotel team at the Trianon Palace Versaille is partnering an event worthy of its renown, where guests can enjoy snacks concocted by the star chefs (2 Michelin stars) of the hotel’s gourmet restaurant. For one starry night, relive the Versaille of its heyday, the opulent and controversial Versaille that is the stuff of dreams the world over.
When reality takes precedence over cinema: a prestigious event, a brilliant idea that reflects French exceptionalism. A love of culture, cinema, heritage and top-of-the-range service.
