What if friendship allowed you to travel? A few weeks ago, Mercure launched #6friendstheory, an operation to promote friendship. Bloggers were sent to the four corners of Europe, and we were invited to Riga.

On paper, Riga is a city we didn’t know and wouldn’t have thought of visiting, but that’s just it! We discovered a city full of resources and charm.

But let’s get back to the operation itself

Mercure has decided to test the famous 6 degrees of separation theory, which claims that only six degrees separate one human being from another on the planet. Based on this principle, Mercure is launching a worldwide digital operation, “The Six Friends Theory”, based on an unprecedented human experience, combining the power of social networks with the sincerity of real encounters. Via an international call for applications from January 20 to February 10, 2015 on Facebook, one Internet user will soon be leaving to live this extraordinary adventure! An untold story The idea is to select a candidate from around the world and take him or her to meet an aborigine from the Bundjalung tribe in Australia, proving that only 6 degrees of separation separate them! They don’t know each other yet, but they’re going to meet thanks to a chain of friends and “friends of friends” that links them. A worldwide casting call open to all To take part in this unique experiment, the mechanics are simple. From January 20, Internet users will be invited to post a video on Facebook, no longer than 1 minute, revealing their personality, their passions, their motivations, their projects, their talent…
In each video, the candidate will have to put themselves in the picture and explain why, in their opinion, they are the best friend in the world. Just one link to apply: www.facebook.com/MercureHotels.fr Once the videos have been posted on the Mercure Facebook page, the 50 candidates with the most votes will be pre-selected for the final recruitment phase. Each Internet user will have to mobilize their network and share their video to obtain the highest number of votes! A 6-person jury including, among others, Jean-François Julian (Director) and Isabelle Musnik (Editorial Director INfluencia) will select the winner from the 50 shortlisted candidates, after a final interview. The casting will be open from January 20 to February 10, 2015, and the results will be revealed between February 17 and February 24, 2015. Use your bold ideas and imagination to stand out, and your network to emerge!

Check out the teaser film announcing the operation: https: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PMEriSX-RA A round-the-world trip mapped out by friends The prize: a place on a round-the-world trip through the Mercure hotel network, based on encounters, discoveries, travel and new experiences! The contestant will travel for 7 weeks, starting in early March! “The Six Friends Theory” will involve 6 meetings, 6 trips and 6 Mercure hotels around the world. At each stage, the contestant will be welcomed by the Mercure hotelier, who will reveal where to find his or her next friend. The Mercure hotelier will offer the contestant a unique experience through his or her history, culture and passions, and will indicate the next step that will bring him or her closer to the aborigine. The adventure promises to be creative, human and warm. Throughout his journey, the candidate will be accompanied by a film crew led by Jean-François Julian. With several world tours to his credit, and collaborations with Canal +’s Les Nouveaux Explorateurs, this cutting-edge director will be immortalizing the candidate’s unprecedented encounters with friends. The 49 other pre-selected candidates will not be outdone: they could win hotel nights at Mercure, Samsung tablets or “The Six Friends Theory” gifts. With a network of more than 700 hotels worldwide, Mercure is committed to making the most of specific local characteristics to offer authentic experiences of sharing and encounters for every traveler. This is why the brand has decided to launch “The Six Friends Theory”, a concept devised by the agency W&Cie. In launching this operation, Mercure once again proves that it is in tune with the times: connected and innovative.
