Makeup By Mario’s long-wear cream eyeshadow gains a pearlescent finish

Makeup By Mario is releasing its long-wear cream eyeshadow in a new pearlescent version. Eight shades and an adaptable texture, designed to be worn alone, layered or as a base.

A familiar formula, a new finish

Long-wear formats hold a growing place in beauty routines, driven as much by a search for time savings as by durability — a context that sheds light on the decision to evolve an existing formula rather than launch a new one.

The Soft Shimmer, a long-wear cream eyeshadow already established in the brand’s range, comes this season in a subtly pearlescent finish. The texture, light and adaptable, lends itself to several uses: worn alone, it leaves a veil of light; layered, it intensifies the eye; used as a base, it prepares the hold of a powder shadow applied over it. The choice not to multiply novelties but to add a variation of finish reflects a product approach built on extension rather than on constant renewal.

A pearlescent finish rests on a simple principle: reflective particles dispersed in the texture, which return light according to the angle of the gaze rather than uniformly. This is what distinguishes it from a satin or matte finish, whose effect remains stable whatever the movement of the face.

Eight shades, one chromatic logic

The range comprises eight shades, from Ballet Blush to Plum Pewter, including Bronze Baddie, Brown Sugar, Fizzy Fig, Honey Crystal, Mauve Magic and Pink Pearl. The spectrum covers pink and pearly tones as well as deeper brown or plum shades, in a palette designed to suit different complexions and uses rather than to follow a single seasonal trend.

This chromatic range, from pale pink to deep plum, covers a discreet daytime look as well as a bolder evening result, without changing product or application gesture.

The cream format, harder to dose than a powder but more precise in application, remains a minority in eye makeup ranges — which partly explains the brand’s focus on extending its uses rather than its colours alone.

The product is priced at twenty-nine euros, exclusively at Sephora in France. –

By betting on an adaptable pearlescent finish rather than a new formula, Makeup By Mario is staking its case on use more than on advertised innovation — a wager on how a single product, extended, can occupy several moments of the same makeup ritual. It remains to be seen whether this logic of extension, rather than an entirely renewed collection season after season, becomes the hallmark of a still-young makeup player in a market where the inflation of novelties remains the norm.
