Karl Lagerfeld and G.H.Bass: a silver coin slipped into the Weejuns

For G.H.Bass’s 150th anniversary and the 90th of the Weejuns loafer, Karl Lagerfeld signs a seven-model capsule. Its most visible gesture is tiny: a silver K/Autograph coin set in the penny keeper.

G.H.Bass is celebrating 150 years of shoemaking this year and 90 years of its Weejuns loafer. Karl Lagerfeld answers with a collaboration for Autumn-Winter 2026: seven models, for men and women, built around what is, according to the press release, one of the most recognisable shoe silhouettes.

The device comes down to very little. Each pair is finished with a silver K/Autograph coin, placed in the penny keeper, the traditional element of the loafer. The Weejuns design does not change; what the Maison Karl Lagerfeld adds is a brand sign at the very spot where the model has its most identifiable detail. The pairing is direct and legible, which is its quality.

Three versions are offered: a polished black, a black-and-white contrast, and a black edition embossed with tone-on-tone Icon KARL LAGERFELD motifs, which gives relief and, according to the press release, a touch of discretion. The collection is presented as an extension of the Autumn-Winter 2026 women’s and men’s ready-to-wear wardrobe, with a loafer designed to be worn alongside tailoring, the brand’s silhouettes and everyday pieces.

The capsule’s interest depends on a question that the press kit leaves open: what does the collaboration bring beyond the logo? The text gives neither the nature of the leathers, nor the shape of the sole, nor the place of manufacture, nor the prices. The two anniversaries are not enough to make an angle. What remains is the detail of the coin in the keeper, which is a defensible choice, because it sets a brand sign in dialogue with a historic functional element rather than covering it. As no piece has been examined, the quality of the finish is not assessed.

The capsule will be available from October 2026 in KARL LAGERFELD stores, on karllagerfeld.com, at selected retailers and on ghbass-eu.com.
