According to PrivateFly ‘s report on private jet rental market trends, for the first time ever Nice is the most frequented city by private jets, followed by London and Paris in third place.
In 2016, Nice was Europe’s 3rd busiest airport for private jets. But it’s in summer and spring, particularly during this year’s major cultural and sporting events, that the capital of the Alpes-Maritimes is the most popular destination for the very first time.
This information is part of private jet booking platform PrivateFly‘s second-quarter 2017 report on market trends. PrivateFly receives and analyzes more than 100,000 flight searches per month received on its website and mobile app, and hundreds of bookings per month.
In fact, the Côte d’Azur played host to numerous events in the spring, attracting large numbers of private jets. According to PrivateFly, the busiest day of the quarter was Thursday May 25, preceding Rolland Garros, the last weekend of the Cannes Film Festival and the Monaco Grand Prix.
The presence of numerous private jets in Nice also enabled PrivateFly to set a new speed record, organizing a flight in just 29 minutes.
Adam Twidell, CEO and co-founder of PrivateFly in Europe, explains: “The customer needed to get home to Dublin as quickly as possible from Nice. He contacted us at 3.18pm (in France) and wanted to arrive by 5pm (Dublin time) to take part in an event. Thanks to our system, we were able to identify a private jet already present at Nice Côte d’Azur airport, which was ready for takeoff 29 minutes after the call.”
While this customer booked a last-minute flight, private jet users preferred to plan ahead last quarter. 23% of them booked their flight more than 30 days in advance, a rather high figure according to Adam Twidell: “Private jet users generally book their aircraft shortly before their flight. Last quarter, 53% of them booked in the week before their flight, and 9% booked on the day. But with the onset of summer, availability is shrinking, and our customers are tending to book in advance to secure the best jets.”
