United for a just cause
This is the sixth time Harry Winston has taken part in the Only Watch event. Held every two years, this charity auction has raised over 25 million euros since its inauguration in 2005 for scientific research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy. This year, Harry Winston will donate a customized Ocean Big Date model from the Project Z collection. This cutting-edge range is distinguished by its innovative design methods and use of avant-garde materials, housing some of the most sophisticated mechanical complications in the world of watchmaking.
Personalized for the event
The 42 mm white gold case of the Ocean Big Date Only Watch sports a sporty, masculine look. Note the off-center hour and minute counters, a true Harry Winston signature, and the large date window at 6 o’clock. Touches of yellow on the dial and strap evoke the chromatic theme of the 2017 Only Watch auction. To ensure optimum legibility in all circumstances, several elements have been treated with a phosphorescent substance emitting a powerful bluish halo in the dark: the yellow tips of the hour-markers, the Harry Winston logo at 12 o’clock and the rim of the large date window.
A complex layout
With its bold, architectural design, typical of the avant-garde spirit of the Project Z collection, the dial evokes the steel superstructures of gigantic New York skyscrapers, paying homage to the city where Harry Winston established his eponymous company.

This modern, openworked dial, arranged on several levels, creates a fascinating three-dimensional perspective. Set on large radiating bridges adorned with Côtes de Genève that extend around the center of the dial, four matte black structures house the hour and minute discs and the large date window. The emblematic shuriken symbol appears at 6 o’clock on the hour and minute counters, while two autonomous rotating discs, stamped with the numbers that scroll in the large date window, dominate the lower part of the dial.
A rich technical content
Equipped with a sophisticated self-winding mechanical movement featuring two barrels and a flat silicon balance spring, the Ocean Big Date Only Watch has a solid 72-hour power reserve. Visible on both the dial and back sides, the movement is adorned with a splendid Côtes de Genève motif and draws its energy from an openworked white gold rotor.
Mounted on a sporty-looking black alligator and rubber strap with yellow stitching, a nod to the chromatic theme of Only Watch, the openworked back is engraved with the inscription “Only Watch 2017 Unique Piece”, underlining the noble cause championed by this timepiece produced in a limited edition of one.
