Riad Wow, charm and design in the heart of Marrakech

A few weeks ago, we set off on a trip to Marrakech to preview a Riad. This Riad is Riad Wow, and the least we can say is that it didn’t leave us indifferent. A real “coup de coeur”, we discovered Marrakech in the best possible way.

Le Wow is a haven of peace located in the heart of Marrakech’s medina, between the old town and the Guéliz district, just a stone’s throw from the famous Jemma El Fna square and the Koutoubia mosque… The advantage is that you’re close to everything, yet don’t have to deal with the inconveniences of the Medina itself.

The warm welcome and friendly hosts will take care of your every need to make your trip to Marrakech a wonderful experience.

The Riad also offers a hearty Moroccan breakfast and a restaurant open exclusively to guests. Chef Mme Hadjiba serves innovative local cuisine using the finest ingredients, with à la carte menus available in the evenings. The typically oriental décor, with copper tables and bar and elegant carved wooden cornices, creates a warm, relaxing atmosphere.

But the Riad’s main attraction remains the sky lounge (the terrace). Located on the roof of the riad, this cosy lounge-bar offers an incredible panoramic view of the city. Luxuriously styled by Italian artist Maurizio, the Sky Lounge Wow features leather sofas and a sliding roof. It’s the most exclusive place to enjoy an unrivalled view of the snow-capped peaks of the High Atlas, the Koutoubia and the Royal Mansour Hotel.

Wow offers a wide range of excursions, which we were able to try out, to avoid getting lost or wasting time chatting with the locals.

LA PLACE JEMAA EL FNA
Jemaa El-Fna is a famous square in Marrakech, a hub of cultural exchange, bustling from morning to night with shows and musical performances, open-air restaurants and non-stop entertainment. Come and meet the snake charmers, water carriers, fortune-tellers, acrobats, fire-eaters and storytellers who gather in this world-famous square, which is on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

KOUTOUBIA MOSQUE
Marrakech’s most famous mosque was built by the Berbers in the 12th century. The Koutoubia mosque features traditional Almohad architecture, with decorations on all four walls. Also known as the Booksellers’ Mosque, it boasts a 69-metre-high minaret.

JARDIN MAJORELLE
This botanical garden was created by French artist Jacques Majorelle in the 1930s. Inspired by the tile colors of Moroccan houses, he created an intense, luminous shade of blue and painted his villa, garden walls, fountains and flower pots in this new Majorelle blue. After his death, the house was abandoned and restored in 1980 by Yves Saint Laurent. The garden now boasts lush, exotic plants.

MÉDERSA BEN YOUSSEF, CORANIC SCHOOL
Dating back to the 14th century, the Ben Youssef medersa has become the most famous tourist site in the old town. This Koranic school, which for six centuries welcomed generations of students in search of knowledge, is an architectural gem.

LA MEDINA

After these sometimes tiring strolls, let yourself be tempted by the Riad’s spa, where you can try out the Moroccan hamam, an ancestral tradition, or massages and treatments.

The Riad is also a gallery, with many talented artists on display.
