Miami shopping capital, part 1: Welcome to Dadeland

A few weeks ago, we flew to Miami for a shopping trip with Simon, the American leader in high-end shopping malls. The least we can say is that there’s no shortage of shopping options in Miami: huge malls, alternative boutiques, seaside shopping on Miami Beach.

First stop: Dadeland Mall, 20 miles from downtown Miami. Dadeland is quite simply a reference for any shopping addict, featuring Florida’s largest Macy’s as well as Saks Avenue, Jc Penney and Nordstrom. In typical American excess, there are over 185 of the most impressive boutiques and equally impressive restaurants. This shopping temple is frequented not only by locals, but also by a select international clientele passing through Miami.

Let’s start our discovery with a store that might surprise us Europeans: Tesla. Who hasn’t heard of this Californian manufacturer, which is revolutionizing the global automotive industry by creating all-electric sports and luxury cars, and which has drawn a large number of international manufacturers in its wake? Tesla has a brand-new showroom in Dadeland where you can order your car with the customizations you want, and have it delivered or come back to pick it up. What’s original here too is the design of the store, which is closer to an Apple Store than a car dealership.

After cars, we move on to sports. In Dadeland, you’ll find boutiques that are more familiar to us Europeans, such as Puma, which gives pride of place to its partnership with the Arsenal soccer team. We also learn that Miami has a huge Arsenal fan club, which is surprising in the land of American soccer! For those who are more into running than soccer, the Fit 2 Run boutique is also very surprising, with an impressive technical section where machines help you choose the running shoes that really suit you. We stop off at Porsche Design, the design and fashion brand that has found its niche with an American clientele more accustomed to casual culture.

Once in fashion, we dive into one of Miami’s most luxurious establishments, Saks 5th Avenue. The largest Saks in Florida, this boutique offers a concierge service, private lounges and all the comforts that are due to Miami’s celebrities and stars. At Saks Dadeland, it’s not uncommon to take vips to New York to accompany them on a shopping spree if they need to, and of course a bespoke service is provided with personal shoppers. We then set out to investigate Miami’s famous style. Miami style stands in stark contrast to Parisian fashion, as the little black dress for a Miami fashionista is transformed into a panther-print dress, the local must-have. The Miami woman is feminine and glamorous, and loves visible brands that reflect her social status. She shops excessively, just as she dresses excessively. The favorite brands of Miami women are undoubtedly Chanel and Louis Vuitton, but also Etro and Roberto Cavalli for their colors. Shapely, colorful dresses with large prints are preferred. You can’t go out in Miami without a pair of high heels, as the Louboutin, Valentino and Salvatore Ferragamo stands are sold out. If you come to Miami, don’t forget the jewelry! It’s got to shine.

All this shopping has made us hungry, so it’s in the restaurant zone that we’re going to discover a brand-new Aoki Teppanyaki. Created by the brother of the illustrious DJ Steve Aoki, Aoki Teppanyaki is a surprising restaurant based on Japanese grills mixed with many influences. The show is always going on around large tables where the grill master cooks before your very eyes.

After an afternoon of shopping in the mall’s boutiques, it’s time to watch the sunset at Earl’s Kitchen and Bar, a Canadian restaurant chain.
