Snapchat and Busterwood Creative Studio have teamed up to create a never-before-seen augmented reality experience on the historic facade of the Parisian department store, La Samaritaine. To celebrate the summer reopening of its Magic City theme park, a colorful augmented reality experience was created to recreate this dreamlike universe.

The building’s facade is brought to life and transformed into a gigantic amusement park thanks to Snapchat’s City Landmarker augmented reality technology, used for the first time in France. The experience, based on the work of artist Clément Morin, features funfair elements such as roller coasters, a Ferris wheel and merry-go-rounds, which appear more realistic than ever.

Snapchat users can access the experience by walking past the facade with their smartphone and scanning the QR codes displayed on the building, or by finding the Lens in the Snapchat carousel. The experience is available until August 31.

Geoffrey Perez, Global Head of Luxury at Snap, expressed his excitement about the collaboration: “As summer approaches, we’re thrilled to offer Snapchat’s 27 million monthly active users in France this playful and colorful experience, and to implement our City Landmarker augmented reality technology for the first time in France with such an iconic French institution as La Samaritaine.”

La Samaritaine stressed the importance of this partnership with Snapchat, which brings Clément Morin’s work to life and adds a new dimension to the department store’s Magic City theme. It’s also an opportunity to reinterpret the department store’s historic façade with modern technological tools, creating a link between the building’s history and innovation.
