The first show of the day on this sunny Sunday morning in Milan was the Marni collection, which is always an extraordinary journey through sophisticated materials, precise cuts and refreshing patterns. Consuelo Castiglioni works monastic silhouettes in straight fabrics, the waist encircled by a wide leather belt that sometimes even crosses the garment. The colors are deep, powerful, composed of a palette of chocolate, cream, ochre, blue and pale pink, with a touch of carmine red. A lanky silhouette with thin turtlenecks, foot-covering pants and tunic dresses. There’s a raw, tribal feel to the collection. Then the prints that make up the label’s DNA take over the catwalk, in graphic, abstract patterns. Fur warms up sleeves or covers pockets and the front of a chasuble dress. Note the heeled pumps with colored, notched soles and the imposing round earrings. Once again, as always, Marni strikes the right balance between strong style and seductive fashion.
