A breath of design in the land of roses with the César Hôtel

Discovering our regions and traveling is one of Luxsure’s leitmotivs. And sometimes the closest trip is the most exotic.

Less than two hours from Paris, Provins takes us back to the Middle Ages. This medieval town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has retained all its authenticity and charm. Surrounded by medieval buildings, the Cesar Hôtel is a breath of fresh design.

A skilful blend of modernity and the purest design, yet inspired by the Middle Ages, the Cesar Hôtel offers a unique stay in a rehabilitated former post office, where design, history and authenticity coexist in perfect harmony. The hotel’s name is a nod to the Middle Ages, taking its name from the Caesar Tower, which overlooked Provins in the 12th century and long embodied power and authority. From its ideal location in the heart of the medieval town, the César Hôtel offers an exceptional panorama. From its windows, you can admire the 12th-century Sainte-Croix church, the Tour César, the Basilique Sainte-Quiriace and all the town’s bell towers.

Le César Hôtel offers 27 rooms that transport you into a world where history reads like the present. Laurent Mangoust, the hotel’s interior designer, has skilfully blended the two.
The intelligence of the establishment lies in its subtle references to the Middle Ages: curtains reminiscent of knights’ chain mail, sandblasted glass partitions that elegantly revisit the codes of ancient stained-glass windows, plaids reminiscent of the animal skins with which knights covered themselves, triptych mirrors as headboards, reminiscent of the pictorial form favored by medieval painters, and circular pendant lights that illuminate bedrooms and corridors with a fine halo of LEDs, in the same way that antique chandeliers illuminated noble homes with candles.
Throughout the space, small nods to this period are mischievously distilled, echoing the hotel’s historical and geographical context. The masters of the house, authentic princes and princesses from the iconography of the Bibliothèque de France, treated as giant wall coverings, watch over the comings and goings in the corridors.

The hotel also boasts an attractive bar, the Buzz Bar, and a relaxation area: L’Espace “13 Zen”.

An address to recommend for weekends on the outskirts of Paris, where you can get away from it all, with the whole family or just the two of you, to discover the historical treasures and cultural side of this jewel city, between fortress and romantic rose garden, without sacrificing anything of the best contemporary style.

During our visit, we were able to discover the main points of interest of this city, which deserves more than a day’s visit, as well as the pleasure of discovering this hotel, all in a most medieval atmosphere.

La Roseraie de provins
The exceptional rose garden, recently awarded the famous Trophée Quatre Branches, opens its doors to the public every day from 10am to 7pm during school vacations. The rest of the year, the garden is open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from 2pm to 6pm.
Located just a hundred meters from the César Hôtel, the rose garden offers the opportunity to discover the Provins rose or rose gallica, which the owner cultivates with passion.

Medieval shows (in fine weather):
Les héritiers de l’Histoire offer visitors a selection of shows that plunge you back into the Middle Ages:
– Falconry show: les aigles des remparts
– Chivalry show: the legend of the knights
– Provins sound & light show (night show)
We were treated to a magnificent foretaste of medieval culture with a medieval evening in the hotel, with period fare and fire-eaters on hand just for us.

Provins boasts no fewer than 58 listed monuments, and this perfectly preserved medieval town boasts a very homogeneous heritage.
Monuments and sites:
– The ramparts and fortified gates
– The Caesar Tower
– The underground passages we visited.

– La grange aux dîmes
– La maison Romane: classified as a historic monument, discover the history of Provins
