In Paris, he opened his own workshop in the mid-60s. His aim was to invent a new kind of jewelry: more personal, more “real”. To achieve this, he reversed the jewellery-making approach, creating jewels that were more for the wearer than the beholder. He offers women jewelry that at last resembles them, jewelry freed from their traditional constraints: the need to look good, the discomfort of massive ornaments, the frustration of being able to wear them only on special occasions. He wanted to mark his era with new forms. He created jewelry to be worn every day by women in the throes of emancipation. For them, he creates rings that don’t run down pantyhose, and hijacks everyday objects.
Far from a jewelry of pomp and circumstance, it offers an intimate, spiritual luxury, and is breathing new life into the world of French jewelry.
