At the heart of the “hill of the Grands Crus”, where the Serein River shapes the viticultural geography of Chablis, Château Grenouilles is a statutory exception. As the only true château in a sea of often fragmented plots, this 7.20-hectare single-holding estate embodies a rarity of land. . Located between Vaudésir and Valmur, with south-western exposure facing the village, it draws its complexity from Kimmeridgian clay-limestone soil, a geological memory that gives Chardonnay its characteristic tension. La Chablisienne, which has been orchestrating this score since 1923, delivers with the 2022 vintage a sunny yet masterful interpretation of this singular terroir.
The year 2022, marked by a warm spring and summer, offered optimal sanitary conditions, allowing the forty-year-old vines to deliver a dense, healthy product.. The precise vinification process respects this integrity: after cold static settling, alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place in barrels and vats. This is followed by fourteen months’ ageing on fine lees, always split between wood and stainless steel. This precipitation-free process allows the wine to build its texture without masking the minerality of the site.
On tasting, this technical requirement is reflected in a pale gold color with silver highlights. The nose, initially restrained by fresh notes of lemon, citrus and anise, gradually opens up to sweeter nuances of vanilla and coconut, reflecting the ageing and maturity of the vintage. On the palate, the attack is spicy and balanced, structured by beautifully ripe fruit, before giving way to a taut, dynamic and persistent finish. This is a wine for the ages, whose ageing potential is underlined, ideally requiring five to ten years to fully develop its personality. .
