Araisara: 1st presentation in Paris

For its first presentation in Paris, the Japanese house chose the setting of the Garage Turenne. Araisara’s Spring Summer 2013 collection is based on the theme of external forces and their life-giving interactions.

Jean Paul Goude’s Picnic Music opened the show to the low-key rhythm of the cellos. Black, heeled boots with pointed toes and transparency. This seems to be the designer’s credo. Belted looks and silhouettes marked at the waist, I appreciate the way the leather belts are double-knotted, contrasting with the softness of the materials used (silk in particular).

Color does make an appearance, however, in the form of kimono cloths chosen by the designer to give her garments a vintage feel. In fact, the outfits act as a link between past and present, with their many details and omnipresent winks.

Minimalist indeed, but with many elements reminiscent of Asia, and that play on past duality, masculine/feminine, which is the basis of the collection. Asymmetries, volume play, all geometric techniques are present. Numerous avenues are being explored, and I’ll be curious to see what the house has in store for us in the coming seasons after such a mysterious and intriguing debut.
