Surprise at Allude’s.
Allude was by far my biggest surprise of the season. The autumn winter show hadn’t really won me over, I freely admit. But the Spring Summer 2013 collection was clearly an opportunity for Andrea Karg to give her style a real boost and come up with some very interesting stuff.
The leitmotif of the Allude brand is its systematic use of cashmere. A noble material, to be sure, but one that can sometimes limit a designer’s artistic choices. And I think last season taught the designer a lesson about the limits and restrictions imposed by this choice. This season, she realized that cashmere alone was not enough, and chose to innovate…much to my delight.
Leather, futuristic eyewear and cashmere knits of different thicknesses, we’re witnessing a renaissance. The cuts are clean, well-defined and the end result is a set of sharp looks, with acidulous colors in shades of blue and green reminiscent of the elements, especially water.
Whether her outfits are chic or more inclined towards sportswear, the designer is having fun, and it’s clear to see, as I felt a real sense of happiness during this fashion show. From two-tone checkered prints to oversized beige sweaters, we can feel her at ease in all these registers, and it’s not for the faint-hearted. The energy exuded by the clothes and the show itself is palpable, making it one of the nicest surprises of this fashion week.
