DAVID LYNCH AND THE LUTETIA

The Lutetia is a mysterious palace. A mythical place, the undisputed palace of the Left Bank, it could appear unchanging. But this is not the case. From avant-garde to avant-garde, it has been inhabited by creativity. Numerous artists have strolled its corridors, some of them interviewed here, others living here. A select few, sculptors, painters and others, have been able to occupy the premises. Introduced a few years ago, the Signature Suites reflect the intrinsic links between the creative sphere and the hotel. The principle is an interesting one. An artist is invited to choose one of the suites and artistically “inhabit” it. The artist must be able to capture the atmosphere, the resonance of the place. To do this, he or she spends time there, adapting to its volume and incredible subtleties. He captures the space, making it his own. He annexes this ‘little’ territory. In osmosis with it, he creates incomparable works that transfigure the space and make it in his own image.

David Lynch, a client of the Lutetia and a fervent admirer of Paris, was seduced by the project. After opting for a Suite, he took up residence and immersed himself in the city. As a filmmaker, he literally staged it, deploying his genius through sculpture and lithographs. A Louboutin pump bristling with spikes, scattered women’s bodies. A declaration of love to a city, to women, to Art, perceptible in every detail. Venturing into this square gives you the sensation of being the artist’s guest. Indeed, he seems to have gone away for a while, and is kind enough to let you into his world. Transported into his phantasmagoria, it’s possible to travel in a different way.
A must-see !
