Created 3 years ago under the aegis of the “l’arbre à lettres” bookstores, the Prix du Livre Rock aims to reward those books whose spirit and letter illustrate and tell the story, through fiction or essays, anthologies or “beaux livres”, the mysterious attraction that rock music exerts on its fans more than ever, and whose plethora of books devoted to it today, now requires an award to help distinguish the best and guide the ever-increasing number of readers of this booming genre (boom boom boom ).
After awarding it in 2009 to Roland Groenenboom for “Sonic Youth etc: Sensational Fix”, published by Le Life, and in 2010 to Geoff Emerick for “En Studio Avec Les Beatles”, published by Le Mot et Le Reste, this year’s jury of passionate readers has chosen to reward the excellent book by the iconic Patti Smith, “Just Kids”, from the list of nominees below.
The award will be presented by Philippe Manœuvre at a gala evening at the Gibus, on Saturday June 25 at 9pm. “Just Kids” retraces the artist’s great New York period. From his anecdotes with Hendrix, Warhol and Burroughs, to the moving account of his relationship with Rob Mapplethorpe. This unique account of one of the greatest artists of her time will be rewarded at the Gibus during a 100% Rock evening with the grand semi-final of the “Rock The Gibus” festival.
