Since January 2011, we’ve been seeing a new consumer trend coming from e-shoppers in the “Clothing, Accessories” and “Beauty, Wellness” categories.
Indeed, these modern-day consumers now prefer to shop online, in small groups, from home, to the point of making it a new mode of e-shopping. A practice which, according to them, is ”more practical, more pleasant and above all an opportunity for real sharing and conviviality, to the detriment of long queues and the hustle and bustle of department stores”.
These eBay-shoppers came and still come to share their “Tea-Shopping party” on the eBay France Facebook page or directly with the teams.
Statistics show that sales in the “Clothing, Accessories” category – particularly dresses, shoes and handbags – peak on weekend afternoons and Wednesdays (from 4pm to 7pm)*, with the most popular brands being IKKS, Desigual and Comptoir des Cotonniers**. Fashionistas don’t stop at fashion, either, as the beauty products category saw a similar increase over the same period, with an average basket of €20 for the top 3 searches: anti-aging creams, nail polish and hair care products*.
In response to the growing popularity of this phenomenon, eBay.fr launched the “Tea-Shopping Party” contest on Facebook at the beginning of the week. It’s a photo contest open to all Facebook users and accessible from the eBay France page, so that they can share their home shopping experience in pictures and try to win up to €300 worth of shopping on eBay.fr.
