The Smalto man advocates unambiguous luxury, and a sense of detail that adds to his soul. He loves the rigor of a tailor’s cut without ever giving up his sense of well-being. He signs his aesthetic without seeming to touch it: here, a rolled shoulder on a perfectly tailored suit; here, an iridescent grosgrain lapel, a subtle twist on the eternal tuxedo. Secretly, or almost, this aesthete is fond of fine materials, the sensual feel of lambskin, the tender nobility of cashmere and the modern relief of cotton piqué. With both feet firmly planted in 2011, the Smalto man is in the mood for a timelessly elegant autumn-winter season.
He has clear ideas and good taste: everything in the cut, the look, the fit of a streamlined silhouette influenced by Welcome to Gattaca and its Frank Lloyd Wright-style architectural universe. A key piece in her wardrobe, the comfortable jacket boasts a structured shoulder just right. Its reputation is built on cashmere jersey. It’s woven in a mottled yarn, flirting with the easy chic of navy cotton pique. In the evening, the jacket is stunned by a crumpled cotton in glittery gray, or features a shawl collar over a removable lapel for the most stylish graphic effect.
The knitted coat, sewn with copper ribbons, is short to better liberate movement. The lambskin gantier jacket features a wealth of details: crocodile inserts, silver fox fur collar. You’ll also find beautiful Toscana lambskins and goose feather down jackets from Italy.
Shirts are enhanced by faux plains, trompe l’oeil bibs and lavaliere collars, with particular attention paid to buttons.
Youn Chong Bak draws inspiration from geometry and architecture to give relief to her sweaters and cardigans. Irish ribs, twists, links and braids vie with each other in pattern, while fine cashmere reveals shoulders warmed by grains of rice dots. Colors are pastels: beige, greige, gray, blue, blush.
Accessories include suede calf boots with metallic buttresses, doctor’s bags and oversized crocodile sports bags.
True to its reputation, Smalto delivers a luxury collection capable of seducing the most demanding customers, while remaining true to its roots and inimitable Smalto style.
