MM6 Maison Margiela’s Spring-Summer 2024 collection, presented under the banner of abstraction and simplicity, explores the idea of pushing a concept to its most radical consequences. This season, the collection focuses on the theme of the hand and its multiple expressions.

Exploring Gestures and Postures

The SS24 collection focuses on the hand as a powerful communication tool through body language. It explores the gestures that define garments, as well as items that encourage certain postures, through to garments adapted to the specific manual expressions of handwork.

Adaptability and customization

Elements such as ribbons, slits, full side openings and ties, deeply rooted in the home vocabulary, suggest personal ways of fitting clothes to the body. This manifests itself in very long vests, elongated tailored jackets and pants that can be rolled up in different ways.

Verticality and Functionality

The collection favors vertical lines with deep V necklines, straight-fitting sleeveless coats and sleeveless shirts. Pockets are set low, both on vests and on pants with elongated crotches.

Robust Materials and Work References

Materials such as denim, robust canvas and polycotton allude to the world of work. T-shirts with six patch pockets suggest a multitude of manual actions, while slip dresses, cut like asymmetrical aprons, illustrate functionality in clothing.

Metaphors and Accessories

The collection plays with metaphor, a favorite MM6 approach to transforming simplicity into abstraction. Accessories, such as round-toe boots, clogs with anatomical toes and handbags that transform into vests, reinforce the idea of creation.

Response to Summer Heat

The collection also responds to summer heat waves, with models opening thick curtains and melted candles adorning necklaces and earrings. As always with MM6, the idea is that the purpose triggers the pleasure of dressing, exploring different ways of behaving and wearing the body.
