LA CUVÉE RABELAIS
A tribute to François Rabelais, who gave his name to this rare cuvée.

François Rabelais, humanist and man of letters, whose work celebrates the love of life, is first and foremost the grandfather of Pierre Frapin, the founder of the House.
If this lineage reminds us of the historical roots of Frapin cognacs, it also underlines the exceptional character of this cognac: a blend of remarkable eaux-de-vie coming exclusively from their “chais Paradis”, as well as from their dames-jeannes containing old cognacs of unknown ages.

The precious elixir of Cuvée Rabelais is distinguished by its elegant aromatic complexity.

With its amber color and orange highlights, this blend reveals a particularly delicate nose, punctuated by scents of candied oranges and apricots, followed by discreet woody aromas.
On the palate, these melt into notes of dried fruit and licorice, before revealing the complex aromas of the famous Charente rancio, evoking tobacco and cigar boxes.
Infinite, its long finish completes the extremely progressive tasting of this limited edition.

THE 1989 VINTAGE – 30 YEARS
1989, a year dominated by fire.

Imagine, capricious but favorable weather conditions and a generous summer. In 1989, within the 240 hectares of Domaine Frapin, set in the heart of Grande Champagne, Premier Cru du Cognac, this vintage was born.

In 1989, a grape bursting with promise was harvested. Behind the walls of the Domaine, it is distilled on lees, doubly subjected to the test of fire and watched over relentlessly until its soul is extracted.
Then, under the supervision of the BNIC, the eau-de-vie, this pure gem, is entrusted to the secrecy of shadow and time, in the fragrant belly of three sealed barrels.

Exceptionally at Frapin, the 1989 vintage will be aged in a wet cellar. This is a first for any vintage. These rare, unblended cognacs, which require intuition and skill, are traditionally crafted in attics.
For 30 years, thanks to the slow evaporation of alcohol, the 1989 vintage will become rounder, softer, and imbued with the hushed atmosphere of the cellars.
When aged in wet cellars, 2% of the estate evaporates each year to the benefit of the angels!
