The famous Times Square Ball Drop, a symbol of the passage to the New Year, not to mention the many celebrations in the five boroughs to make NYC a must-see destination!

NYC & Company, the city’s official marketing, tourism and partnership institution, unveils a festive program of New Year’s celebrations in Times Square and across New York City’s five boroughs.

New Year’s Eve is always a highlight in the metropolis, where crowds of visitors gather to celebrate this memorable event together. With the holiday season fast approaching, New York City is inviting people from all over the world to join in the exceptional celebrations planned for the transition to 2019.

“New Year’s Eve in Times Square remains one of the world’s most iconic celebrations, and we welcome visitors to enjoy this incredible spectacle,” said Fred Dixon, President and CEO of NYC & Company. “New York City is pulling out all the stops to welcome travelers in style to several must-see events for a memorable transition into the New Year.”

Calendar of celebrations in NYC, from Times Square to all the boroughs :

  • Times Square

Installed from December 13 to 22 in the various squares of Times Square, the 21m-high numbers “1” and “9” will be available to active and proactive Instagrameurs to immortalize their stay in NYC on New Year’s Eve.

On December 28, from midnight to 1pm, New Yorkers and visitors alike are invited to take full advantage of Good Riddance Day on Broadway Plaza, in the heart of Times Square. “Bye bye” to the bad memories of 2018! After writing them down on paper, a shredder is there to destroy them.

December 1-29: don’t miss the Wishing Wall, set up in the heart of Times Square to share your wishes and dreams for 2019. At midnight, all wishes will be transformed into confetti and released into the air at the stroke of 12 to celebrate the arrival of 2019. Wishes in digital format can be submitted here or on Twitter & Instagram with #ConfettiWish.

The Times Square Ball Drop: this nearly 6-ton ball, covered in 2688 Waterford crystals, can illuminate New Year’s Eve with over 16 million different colors from One Times Square. As the countdown begins announcing the final minutes of 2018, many adjacent venues offer New Year’s Eve festivities with incredible views of the Ball drop.

Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rocking Eve with Ryan Seacrest will broadcast the Times Square celebrations, including star performances (names to be announced) and hosts Ryan Seacrest & Jenny McCarthy.

  • Midtown Manhattan

From the East River to the Hudson, Midtown’s hotels will welcome in the New Year with the style and sparkle that make New Year’s Eve an iconic celebration of the neighborhood:

The New York Marriott Marquis offers a full 5-course dinner, unlimited premium access to the bar, and a lively evening at the View Restaurant & Lounge for an immersion in the heart of Times Square with a 360° view of the festivities.

The Peninsula New York ‘sSalon Den Ning will host an evening on its rooftop with culinary creations and a Champagne toast at midnight, while the hotel’s signature restaurant, Clément, will host a gala dinner (tuxedo and evening dress required), with clubbing and a DJ performance to keep the night going.

The festivities are far from being limited to Manhattan’s Midtown district:

Z Hotel NYC will celebrate New Year’s Eve with a feast-like meal featuring Asian duck breast, rack of lamb with thyme and rosemary, … An open bar, buffet and toast at midnight for lovers of festive evenings at this hotel in Long Island City (Queens).

Located in the heart of a 168-hectare forest preserve, The Hilton Garden Inn hosts a gala New Year’s Eve party in its sumptuous ballroom. This all-inclusive event features a live band and DJ performance until 1am. Upgraded tickets are still available with a night in a suite. (Staten Island)

New York City’s only casino, Resorts World Casino, invites the public (+21 years old required) to celebrate 2019 at Bar360 with a night of concerts and a performance by TKA K7, a New York rap group that became famous in the 90s. Also on the program: access to the gaming room with its 4,200 slot machines and 1,300 electronic gaming tables. (Queens)

Party on Park Avenue at the Loews Regency Hotel: Enjoy a night of glitz and glamour in an elegant suite on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, with open bar, champagne toast at midnight and dinner courtesy of The Regency Bar & Grill. Reservations by December 28. (Manhattan)

Yankee Stadium will transform its baseball field into a soccer field for the 9th Annual New Era Pinstripe Bowl on New Year’s Eve this year. It’s a chance to watch the best college teams go head-to-head in this historic stadium. For the evening: many renowned dining options in the neighborhood and an overnight stay at the Opera House Hotel (Bronx).

Open until 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, New York Botanical Garden’s Holiday Train Show showcases model trains in a handcrafted setting of plants and natural products, representing more than 175 iconic New York City buildings, including Oculus, One World Trade Center, Battery Maritime Building (Bronx).

For the 5th year in a row, Coney Island USA will host the annual New Year’s Eve party at Steeplechase Plaza with a fireworks display from the Parachute Jump attraction. Coney Island’s Boardwalk restaurants and attractions (B&B Carousell, Deno’s Wonder Wheel, and Thunderbolt roller coaster) will be open to the public and ready for New Year’s Eve celebrations. To mark the countdown to 2019, a digital ball descending from its mast will ring in the final seconds before the New Year, followed by a performance by the Circus Sideshow Fire troupe at 1am. Visitors are invited to ring in the New Year with Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams for the 39th edition of The New Year’s Eve Fireworks Celebration in Prospect Park’s Grand Army Plaza. This family-friendly event is an authentic, free way to celebrate 2019 with tens of thousands of locals and tourists, with live entertainment (Brooklyn).

For a breathtaking view of the NYC Skyline coupled with fireworks overlooking the Hudson River, come aboard the Circle Lines New Year’s Eve Cruise in New York Harbor from 9pm to 1am. A DJ performance and champagne toast complete the evening. (Manhattan)

The Empire State Building will celebrate the end of 2018 with innovative, festive LED illuminations visible until 11:55 pm on December 31, before offering the public its “signature” twinkle of white lights until sunrise on January 1, 2019. Rock band Phish returns to the famous venue, Madison Square Garden, for its 60th show, and on stage from December 28 to 31. (Manhattan)

Renee Fleming, 4-time Grammy award-winning artist, will join Jaap van Zweden, the Philharmonic’s new Music Director, for the New York Philharmonic’s New Year’s Eve Concert, an evening of dance and song (Manhattan).

The NYC Marathon 2019 TCS: running fans and enthusiasts are invited to take part in the most festive qualifying race of the year, the NYRR Midnight Run. Registered runners and their companions will gather in Central Park, at the Rumsey Playfield, for a crazy 6.4 km run (start at 10pm-finish at midnight), culminating in a fireworks display at the finish line.   • New Year’s Day in Brooklyn

The Coney Island Polar Bear Club New Year’s Day Plunge kicks off at 1 p.m. on New Year’s Day from the Stillwell Avenue boardwalk. After the plunge into the icy ocean, participants are invited to enter the New York Aquarium and then head to the Coney Island Brewing Company to warm up after the swim. Registration only and free.
