Turkish Airlines takes to the skies in style with new cabin crew uniforms by Italian designer Ettore Bilotta
To celebrate 85 years of success, Turkish Airlines unveils a brand new look with a new uniform specially created for its flight crews. The new uniforms will be officially worn after the opening of the new Istanbul airport, the Turkish airline’s new hub.
Inspired by many classic elements of Turkish design and culture, the new uniforms blend traditional motifs found in handcrafted glassware, ceramics and calligraphy with contemporary textures and details. The new collection combines shapes with colors inspired by Istanbul’s Bosphorus, created to symbolize the dynamism and natural energy that flows through Turkey’s capital, like an intersection between East and West.

The global airline, which serves the most countries in the world, has teamed up with Milan-based Haute Couture designer Ettore Bilotta to create a new style that heralds a new era and a new image for the brand.
Unique and recognizable by its palette of deep red and charcoal gray, the collection includes hats, gloves, dresses, bags and accessories. In addition, uniforms for the cockpit, flight attendants and ground staff will be revised to offer passengers a consistent brand experience.
Bilotta’s creations are both functional and aesthetically pleasing, two essential elements for an airline that serves so many destinations around the world. The new uniforms were designed with the help of fashion experts and Turkish Airlines teams, and have also been rigorously tested on long-haul flights in different climates.

Mr. Ilker Aycı, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee commented; “Turkish Airlines is always excited to collaborate with talented designers to create elegant and practical design. While maintaining the traditional elements of Turkish style and culture, our new uniforms are professional and remain true to our culture of hospitality, the very image of our airline.”
Ettore Bilotta, the creator of these uniforms said: “When I started designing for Turkish Airlines, the first thing that inspired me was Istanbul. This city has been a blend of art and civilization for centuries, and possesses the rare richness of a heritage shared by many cultures. I wanted to bring elements of traditional calligraphy and mosaic into a new interpretation of Turkish motifs. The modern lines are particularly evident in the scarves and ties, which reflect this contrast and duality.”
To unveil the new uniforms, Turkish Airlines teamed up with British photographer and artist Miles Aldridge. He photographed the new Turkish Airlines uniform collection, staged in emblematic Istanbul locations.
Istanbul, a cultural and historic city of varied colors and textures, spans two continents, providing a magnificent backdrop for the uniforms. Drawing on his ability to combine a meticulous approach with a rare talent for staging and storytelling, Miles Aldridge photographed the collection using the city to create a selection of luminous images. The launch coincides with the airline’s 85th anniversary. “I was very inspired when I saw the uniforms, as they evoke a golden age of 50s haute couture fashion, but with a very contemporary twist. Again, it’s very similar to my work, which always references the past but is very definitely rooted in the present.”
