Paris/Dubai – Christie’s France has just announced the third edition of its Bags & Accessories sale, which will take place on March 5 during Fashion Week. Each season, the sale brings together exceptional pieces by leading fashion houses such as Hermès, Chanel, Dior and Louis Vuitton. Christie’s Dubai will also be celebrating its 10th anniversary with the inaugural Elements of Style sale on March 17, featuring handbags, jewelry and watches.

Unique pieces, special orders and limited editions will all be offered at auction, with estimates ranging from 2,000 to 70,000 euros.

Among the extremely rare pieces on offer in Paris is a KellyNatura28Celadon Green bag with an estimate of €15,000 to €20,000. In the 1920s, it was impossible to depigment certain exotic skins, only to color them, making the production of light colors difficult, if not impossible. As a result, the finished piece showed some of the original skin color. Around 2000, Hermès deliberately revisited this process, subtly retaining the original effect. The result is a dazzling explosion of aniline transparency, amplified by celadon green. The number of bags made using this technique is unknown, but many believe there are less than ten, making this one of the rarest Kellys in the world. This bag is considered one of the most desired handbags in the world, and despite all its qualities, its estimate remains very reasonable (€15,000-20,000) compared to the price realized by a Birkin 35 from the same collection sold last season in Paris for €108,300.

Similarly, a Himalaya Birkin 35 bag in perfect condition sold for €157,500 last March in Paris, while a similar new model will be offered on March 5 for an estimate of €70,000 to €90,000.

Another highlight of the Paris sale was a limited edition of the Birkin model by Hermès. This bag, which is no longer made, is part of the “So black” collection, which has the particularity of having its trim in black-plated metal rather than gold- or silver-plated metal. This extremely rare alligator bag is estimated at between 40,000 and 45,000 euros.

Other important Hermès pieces up for auction include a KellyPicnic35 in Barenia leather and wicker, and a Kelly 32 Bleu Saphir, Bleu Marine and Bleu Jean in alligator. Cyril Pigot Kessler, in charge of the sale: “These rare pieces, in different materials and colors and made in very limited editions, are exactly what collectors are looking for. With its materials, combining woven wicker on the sides and calf leather for the base, flap and handle, this bag is like a picnic basket, but more chic. The alligator Kelly is a unique example that blends three shades of blue, married to the gilded metal of its trim. These bags are practical summer must-haves to accompany you to Ascot or on your pinasse in the Bassin au Ferret” (estimate: €20,000-25,000 and €15,000-20,000).
