MAISON FABRE AT DS WORLD PARIS: REFINEMENT DOWN TO THE FINGERTIPS

The opening of the Maison Fabre exhibition at DS WORLD PARIS took place on September 22. The evening was attended by Olivier Fabre and several distinguished guests, who came to preview the exhibition. Mr. Jean-Louis Debré was able to take a seat in the DS of his father, Mr. Michel Debré, exceptionally exhibited at DS World. Other guests included Jean-Michel Apathie, Princess Tania de Bourbon Parme and actress Hermine de Clermont-Tonnerre. The exhibition will run until January 4, 2016.

DS & MAISON FABRE: FRENCH KNOW-HOW

Paying homage to the little hands behind the Fabre gloves, the exhibition at DS WORLD PARIS will highlight the craftsmanship of leatherwork, a know-how dear to DS. In fact, the DS organization includes a team of saddlers who offer customers the “watch strap” finish, available exclusively on DS models.

The exhibition takes a look back at the beginnings of Maison Fabre, founded in 1924 in the heart of Aveyron (France), and showcases the expertise of this factory dedicated to glove-making. Workshop pieces, period photographs and quilting machines will retrace the family saga of Maison Fabre, the history of the Millau workshop and the craftsmanship of master glovemakers, cutters, embroiderers and stitchers. Iconic pieces such as the glove from the film La Belle & la Bête (1946), Pierre Soulages’ glove and Marie-Antoinette’s perfumed glove will be on display, along with artistic photographs illustrating Maison Fabre’s collaborations with the greatest names in haute-couture. To top it all off, unique models in the colors of autumn 2015 will also be unveiled on the upper floor of DS WORLD PARIS, and visitors will be able to order these made-to-measure gloves if they wish.

DS & MAISON FABRE: THE GLOVE, SYMBOL OF FRENCH ART DE VIVRE

The 1st floor of DS WORLD PARIS will be transformed into an ephemeral sales area, featuring an exclusive collection of DS driving gloves created by Maison Fabre in collaboration with the DS styling office. Made from plunged lambskin, the gloves are crafted in Millau from local skins and furs. On each model, the inserts on the inside of the gloves ensure a firm grip on the steering wheel for elegant driving. This exclusive edition subtly blends the codes of the DS universe with the inimitable stamp of Maison Fabre. It is limited to fifty examples. The perfect way to celebrate the art of living in a DS.

MAISON FABRE HAS BEEN HANDED DOWN AND TRANSFORMED FOR FOUR GENERATIONS

The story begins in Millau in 1924. Etienne Fabre, a master glove-maker, founded his glove-making business, specializing in white kid gloves from 1928 onwards. In 1942, his son Denis and daughter-in-law Rose joined the glove-making business. Dynamic and enterprising, Rose quickly transformed her husband’s factory into a flourishing business. She created models for haute-couture houses, transforming this essential accessory into a refined product. From 1970 to 1990, their son Louis launched a line of leather goods. The year 2000 marks a new turning point for the company. Olivier Fabre left journalism school, joined his father and brother Jean-Marc, and played a full part in the family business’s new expansion, delving into the company’s archives and collaborating with numerous designers in Paris to establish Maison Fabre’s fashion image once and for all. Her challenge: to combine fashion and know-how, to make each creation unique through the quality of its details, and to make “Made in France” a Maison signature. In 2013, the family business was awarded the prestigious EPV (Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant) label by the French Ministry of the Economy.
