This Sunday, July 5, 2015, on the occasion of Paris Fashion Week, Lacoste was undoubtedly preparing one of its finest coups. As ready-to-wear slowly drew to a close and haute couture week was about to reveal itself, the Palais de Tokyo played host to the mysterious “Players” event. In the basement, an installation worthy of an art exhibition set-up presented the emblematic Lacoste Polo shirt, diverted with panache from the weight of its tradition.
Surrounded by a lighting installation, the Polo is embroidered with pearls, gems, plexiglass, all entertaining us with the essential element of the piece: fit and comfort. It’s a contradictory liberation of the polo that’s given a new edge.
It’s an unusual collaboration indeed: Lacoste, the symbol of sport in all its courtesy and casual elegance, has called on the haute couture of Lesage, the legendary embroidery house, for a stunning reinvention of our beloved crocodile. Eight new polo shirts were unveiled with sequin embroidery and zig-zag stitch edging, like works of art in their own right. Each piece is assigned a photo and a muse. The 8 chosen muses, on the other hand, are far from unknown.
The campaign features models Constance Jablonski and Cora Emmanuel, actresses Emnanuelle Seignier, Laetitia Casta, Audrey Marnay and Karidja Touré, DJ Clara 3000, and ballet dancer Marie-Agnès Gillot. A panel that honors French female talent in all its freshness and eclecticism. Each represents the individuality of a model. The polo shirts are all unique in style, and their content is full of self-deprecating humor and subtlety. The main themes are desire, play and pleasure. As for the form, it’s an androgynous style with an aura of mystery, hinting at an erotic vibe. Watch out for the new crocodiles!
