Grab your bat and run to the next base. New Balance, with the help of American brand J Crew, revisits the world of baseball – a sport that is part of the identity of the United States – with a brand new pair of sneakers. (available online on the J Crew website).

Baseball arrived in New York in the mid-19th century, developing mainly in New Jersey and Brooklyn. Quickly promoted as the national sport, it carried with it an imagery of caps, vertical-striped tops and tight pants. A frequent inspiration for fashion designers, this time it’s New Balance’s turn to pay tribute.

With more than 100 years of existence, the brand has had its ups and downs. Over the past 2 years, it has become a benchmark sneaker, spotted on the feet of fashionistas and celebrities alike. Ridding themselves of their image as comfort shoes and emergency sneakers, relegated to people who don’t care much about their looks, New Balance sneakers are revitalizing their brand image, notably through prestigious collaborations such as with Comptoir de Cotonniers.

Despite this new light, the brand’s priority remains quality. The company’s guiding principle is design: it’s the rigor of design that will sell a product, not advertising at the feet of media personalities. So it’s only natural that it should join forces with an American brand with the same priorities: J Crew.

Encouraging personal mixes and blends of patterns and colors, collaborations come naturally to J Crew. There’s no taboo about pairing these baseball-style sneakers with a three-piece suit. Bill Gates can keep his New Balance in peace! From now on, they’re no longer a plan B, but a real collector’s item.
