New York Fashion Week came to a close with the eagerly-awaited collection by Marc Jacobs, who, just one year after leaving Louis Vuitton, produced a highly accomplished show with a wealth of details and materials. Materials borrowed from the masculine universe (this season’s big trend), but feminized with elegance. Long plaid jackets and herringbone coats are adorned with sequins. The body is emphasized by numerous straight dresses embellished with horizontal stripes of patent leather. Sensuality is expressed through a few transparencies, with tulle on the bottom of a skirt. Long skirts are pleated and adorned with eyelets and embroidery. Old-fashioned yellow roses are printed on flared dresses with marked waists, while two-tone fur warms up many silhouettes. The finale features “column” dresses with pixelated embroidery, a magnificent way to pay tribute to Diana Vreeland, a great American fashion figure to whom the show is dedicated.
