The 40th Relais & Châteaux International Congress was held in Paris from November 16 to 19, 2014. Between sharing and transmission, this event was an opportunity for Relais & Châteaux to celebrate the true values of the table and hospitality and to elevate, via strong commitments, the Arts de Vivre to the rank of 10th Art. The highlight of the congress was the magnificent Taste Art evening at the Palais de Tokyo. Five young chefs (Jean Sulpice, Alexandre Gauthier, Shinichi Sato, Sébastien Bras, Mauro Colagreco) took this Museum of Modern Art by storm in an artistic journey designed by Jean Blaise and Fanny Bouyagui, in the presence of celebrities from all over the world.
Enhancing and preserving the diversity of the world’s cuisines and hospitality, and combating excessive standardization within establishments: these are the aims of the Relais & Châteaux approach. The Association’s aim is to revitalize the Arts de vivre and their values through sharing, transmission and the preservation of resources.
Against this backdrop, the Comité des Tables Relais & Châteaux, a group of men and women sommeliers, chefs and Maîtres de Maison, began a process of reflection over a year ago. Relais & Châteaux initiated this movement with twenty strong commitments, set out in the Relais & Châteaux Manifesto and presented under 3 headings:
– To preserve the world’s cuisines
– To share our passion for beauty and good taste
– To be actors in a more humane world.
These commitments are part of a battle that the Association wishes to wage with others around the world, and one of these actions is to elevate the Arts of Living to the rank of 10th Art.
