After launching its first lipstick line in 1991, Bobbi Brown has become one of the biggest names in the cosmetics industry. Today, the Bobbi Brown brand is distributed in over 1,700 stores in 68 countries worldwide.

For Leading Women, its founder talks frankly about her success story:

In 1991, with only $10,000 in her pocket, she and her partner launched Bobbi Brown Essentials with a single goal: To develop a lipstick that looked natural, because most lipsticks on the market looked artificial”.

A woman who goes against the grain: “A yellow complexion. Women don’t want to have a yellow complexion. Yet it’s what makes a woman natural.”

But for Bobbi Brown, it’s not all about looking perfect: “My company’s philosophy is to help women appreciate who they are and be themselves.

His biggest mistake? “I care about what people think. The way I manage my teams is very human. You dwell on what people might think, but sometimes you have to make tough decisions for the business that aren’t always easy.”

The reason for his success? Perseverance: “Don’t think too much. Act. Don’t stand still. Don’t take no for an answer.”

Every month, “Leading Women” follows women who, each in their own way, have achieved exceptional careers, behind the scenes of their professional and personal lives.
