The King of Pop’s second posthumous album raises a lot of questions. Specifically, Sony Music asked producers Timbaland, Rodney Jerkins, John McClain and Stargate (all big Michael Jackson fans) to complete 8 songs that the superstar had kept in his drawers, and whose vocal parts were complete. Unfortunately, the result is a real disappointment. None of the songs resemble those on Michael Jackson’s albums. Each producer seems to have been content, consciously or unconsciously, to put his own musical stamp on the album, with the duet with Justin Timberlake (whom the King of Pop had met) remaining very anecdotal.
Fortunately, Sony Music has had the excellent idea of offering a Deluxe version of this album, also featuring the 8 original tracks, as the King of Pop had left them, while waiting to finalize them himself one day. These songs are indeed superb (“A Place With No Name” is exceptional) and will truly delight all fans, as will the DVD and poster included as bonuses. They also prove that no one can ever replace Michael Jackson, and that his songs, both well-known and little-known, are as exceptional as ever.
