Oscar Carvallo – Couture Spring-Summer 2014

The new Oscar Carvallo Couture spring-summer 2014 collection, entitled Voyage cinétique II was presented in January in Paris, was born of a vibrant complicity between painter Carlos Cruz-Diez and the couturier.

The couturier and the artist had already collaborated in 2009 for an event at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, and it was in the form of a second visual and sensory voyage that this Spring-Summer 2014 Couture collection was presented. On this occasion, Oscar Carvallo presented 35 silhouettes whose prints, shapes, textures and details were inspired by six works created especially by Carlos Cruz-Diez, transforming the woman’s body into a work of art. Respectful of the clean details and finishes that are so dear to him, Oscar Carvallo treats and mixes silk, chiffon, gazar and lace with unusual materials such as neoprene, fishnet and metallic lamellae.

Precious jewels designed by the artist complement these brightly-colored silhouettes with a play of light and movement. The viewer’s eye, lost in this kinetic shimmer, is staged with derision and theatricality, in a nod to the surrealism emblematic of the House of Carvallo.
