ROLEX CELEBRATES ART IN VENICE
Leading figures from the art world celebrate cross-generational creative collaboration in Venice. The Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative brings together promising young talents and recognized masters in seven disciplines.
At a gala event held yesterday at La Fenice, Venice’s famous opera house, Rolex will pay tribute to Margaret Atwood, Patrice Chéreau, Gilberto Gil, William Kentridge, Lin Hwai-min, Walter Murch and Kazuyo Sejima – respectively mentors in literature, drama, music, visual arts, dance, film and architecture – and their young protégés.
A special tribute will be paid to drama mentor Patrice Chéreau, who passed away on October 7, for his participation in the program and the generosity with which he shared his knowledge and experience with the younger generation. The gala will be preceded by an artistic weekend on October 19 and 20 at the Giorgio Cini Foundation, during which the works created by the protégés during their mentoring year will be presented.
Yesterday in Venice, Rolex revealed the names of the seven artists who will be, each in their own discipline, the mentors of cycle 7 of the Rolex Mentors& Protégés program:
