VIKTOR&ROLF TEAM UP WITH DESSO FOR THEIR FALL/WINTER COLLECTION
2014, TRANSFORMING CARPETS INTO HAUTE COUTURE CREATIONS
Desso, the global manufacturer of carpets and sports surfaces took part in the Haute Couture autumn/winter 2014 collection, supplying red carpet and finishing materials.
The design alludes to the spontaneous movement of primitive clothing constructions – asymmetrical, wrapped, knotted – while
integrating references from classic couture. Patterns borrowed from the coats of wild animals – leopard, zebra, giraffe – are realized in carpet, shaved and meticulously laid by hand, requiring up to 300 hours of work per model. The collection is a surreal reference to fur as camouflage, as the material of ancient indigenous garments, and to animal print as the archetypal quintessence of glamour.
