Son of a Tailor is the first website to offer online sales of made-to-measure T-shirts. An original initiative that we were keen to support.

You can also fund the project on Kickerstarter: https: //www.kickstarter.com/projects/1098390240/son-of-a-tailor-the-perfect-tailored-t-shirt

Based in Copenhagen, Denmark, Son of a Tailor is a fan of T-shirts, and his sole aim is to achieve the best quality and precision fit a T-shirt can offer.
He is fond of traditional bespoke tailoring, and wants to create a fundamental and personal alternative to one of the most mass-produced garments – the T-shirt.

Son of a Tailor philosophy

Son of a Tailor first opened its virtual doors in April 2013, when the company silently posted its web page offering a unique bespoke T-shirt service.
From then on, word spread and Son of a Tailor attracted significant support from local customers and the media. Son of a Tailor takes pride in every detail that goes into the making of a custom-made T-shirt, including..:

Craftsmanship: Son of a Tailor T-shirts are individually made, not mass-produced. The seamstresses create a new design for each order received. They then hand-cut and sew the fabric, finishing by discreetly embroidering the customer’s initials on the bottom of the T-shirt. All T-shirts are hand-packed and delivered directly to the customer.

High-quality organic cotton: Son of a Tailor uses only organically grown cotton, and extracts only the longest fibers for a high-quality, soft, lint-free fabric. The cotton fibers are transported close to the farms, combed to remove impurities and wound into yarn.

Next, the yarn is woven into a simple jersey knit, with a little elastane (4%) to prevent the fabric from warping.

-Sustainability: Son of a Tailor strives for zero waste in its supply chain. Because each T-shirt is produced individually, each T-shirt is ordered to meet the customer’s requirements. Each T-shirt is made with special care and attention, not mass-produced, for each customer.

Custom T-shirts

Son of a Tailor values a simplified approach to design. His ambition is that the T-shirt should be easy to wear, “fun”, and fit the wearer perfectly.

There are currently two models to choose from, available in 4 colors – black, white, blue and green.

The choker has discreet seams and is available in two versions: round neck or V-neck, depending on the customer’s choice. The sleeves are cuffed for a more elegant finish. The bottom of the T-shirt is slightly longer in the back by 1 to 2 cm to give a better line to both the back and front of the T-shirt.

Once customers have chosen their design, they provide Son of a Tailor with all the measurements needed to produce the handmade T-shirt.

There are different ways to take these measurements, again depending on the preferences of each customer:

1) Some customers already have a favorite T-shirt. We can take the main measurements from an existing T-shirt and base the design on that.

2) Alternatively, Son of a Tailor asks for exact measurements to create a made-to-measure product:

a. Exact measurements and T-shirt shape

b. Height, weight, body shape and T-shirt shape; this measurement algorithm is currently being tested with an 80% success rate to date.
