“THE NATIVE FORESTS”. ARTS OF ATLANTIC EQUATORIAL AFRICA
At the musée du quai Branly-Jacques Chirac
Until January 21, 2018
Galerie Jardin
Atlantic equatorial Africa has given African art some of its most exceptional masterpieces. From the plastic power of the Fang to the naturalistic elegance of the Punu, nearly 325 works from this vast region are brought together for the first time in the exhibition “THE NATIVE FORESTS”. Arts of Atlantic Equatorial Africa at the musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac. This large collection of masterpieces, covering the period from the 17th to the early 20th century, is intended to demonstrate the correspondences, mutations and particularities of the forms and arts of equatorial Atlantic Africa, offering a panorama of its principal artistic styles, in the manner of a “classical” art history.
