Until June 15, 2014, find the “SO FRENCH by 5.5” exhibition at the Atelier Renault on the Champs-Elysées. The scenography of this exhibition waves the tricolor flag and pays homage to France. It’s between cars and blue, white and red ribbons that the objects in the “SO FRENCH” exhibition are displayed.
Renault began its history in 1898 in a tool shed at the bottom of a Paris garden. That year, Louis Renault designed the “voiturette”. The brand has always forged links with artists. Robert Doisneau, for example, worked for the company from 1934 to 1956. Renault’s vision is one of innovative, daring and ingenious design.
Le 5,5 designstudio is a French design agency founded in 2003 by Vincent Baranger, Jean-Sébastien Blanc, Anthony Lebossé and Claire Renard. They have already collaborated with brands such as L’Oréal and Baccarat, and were voted designer of the year 2010 at Maison&Objet’s NOW show. Now, for Renault, they give birth to authentic and humorous objects.
Fascinated by the work of craftsmen and a specialist in the misappropriation of objects, 5.5 revisits the emblematic objects of France. From the legendary beret to the famous marinière, the charentaise, the Gallic moustache and the cork. All these objects are part of France’s cultural heritage. “SO FRENCH” pays tribute to French creativity, to our country and to the Renault brand.
Traditional craftsmanship meets design to create a collection of zany, elegant and timeless objects. Here, for example, are two of the creations you can find at the exhibition:
– The VF 5.5: the star of the show. For the designers, it represents the dream car of the most patriotic of Frenchmen. The car adopts all the clichés of French identity, such as a beret-shaped steering wheel, sailor-style seats and an Eifel tower radiator cap.
– The Cork Car: the traditional cylindrical cork has been transformed into a small, customizable car.
What’s more, five of the items on display will be available for sale in the Atelier boutique during the exhibition. A great way to bring home a little piece of France. Fun, original creations that make 5.5 designstudio the Frenchies to watch.
