The Walt Disney Company keeps its legacy alive by inviting the greatest artists to imagine new creations based on their characters. A true muse of pop culture and cartoons, Mickey is the one who inspires artists the most. In 1981, Andy Warhol signed the “Myths” series, and Roy Lichtenstein his “Look Mickey”.
This time, world-famous British artist Damien Hirst reinterprets Mickey. He offers a highly personal interpretation of the Disney character. A unique work of art using only circular shapes. This basic, childlike element is unique to the artist.
The painting will be auctioned at Christie’s during the “Post-War and Contemporary Art” evening on February 13. The money raised will go to Kids Company. Founded in 1996, Kids Company provides practical, emotional and educational support to children and teenagers living in disadvantaged neighborhoods.
