To coincide with the January 8 cinema release of Jalil Lespert’s film “Yves Saint Laurent”, The Westin Paris – Vendôme is reaffirming its attachment to haute couture and its designers by exhibiting until January 31, 2014 twelve never-before-seen photos by photographers Thibault Grabherr and Anouchka de Williencourt depicting the film’s most striking and symbolic scenes, some of which were shot and filmed in the hotel’s Salon Impérial. Among them, the historic reconstruction of the triumphant fashion show from the great couturier’s Russian Opera-Ballet collection, presented in 1976 in the majestic Salon Impérial of The Westin Paris – Vendôme.
Beautifully played by Pierre Niney of the Comédie-Française, this biopic focuses on Yves Saint Laurent’s early years when, at just 21, he succeeded the recently deceased Christian Dior, before founding his own fashion house three years later. We discover his career path, his successes, his obsessions, his passionate relationship with his partner and associate Pierre Bergé (played on screen by Guillaume Gallienne of the Comédie-Française), and his encounters with the people who shaped his life, such as his muses Victoire Doutreleau (Charlotte Le Bon), Loulou de la Falaise (Laura Smet) and Betty Catroux (Marie de Villepin).
Throughout his career, the couturier held numerous shows in the Salon Impérial of The Westin Paris – Vendôme hotel. On July 12, 2001, he sumptuously presented his new Haute Couture collection, although no one knew yet that it would be his last. With this exhibition, The Westin Paris – Vendôme pays tribute to one of its most famous guests.
