At the London auction house Kerry Taylor Auctions, the so-called “Zodiac Jacket” from Elsa Schiaparelli’s Astrology Collection (Haute Couture Winter 1938/39) fetched the record sum of 130,000 euros (over 156,000 euros, including duties and taxes).
This midnight-blue velvet jacket is studded with shooting stars, planets and zodiac signs embroidered by Maison Lesage.
Kerry Taylor Auctions reports that potential buyers engaged in a real battle to win the bid, described as one of the most beautiful Haute Couture pieces they could ever offer for sale.
The Schiaparelli archives and rights were acquired by the Della Valle Group in 2006. On September 30, Marco Zanini was appointed Creative Director, in charge of the Haute Couture and prêt-à-couture collections. He will present his first Haute Couture collection in Paris in January 2014.
