Miss Dior exhibition at the Grand Palais

The “Grand Palais” devoted 2 weeks to an exhibition paying tribute to the famous Miss Dior perfume. Created by “Christian Dior” in 1947, the year in which Dior also launched its famous New Look silhouette. The exhibition was truly fascinating, revealing the history of the legendary perfume and its evolution in terms of packaging (bottle) and communication. But also the vision of this fragrance as seen by 15 contemporary women artists.

Three works in particular caught my attention: Room of One’s Own by artist Nina Zupanc, a raised wooden space covered with an orange-pink veil, evoking an enchanted cage. The “cage” contained a small secretary and a chair adorned with a knot, and the public enjoyed playing with the work and being photographed inside it.

Artist Karen Kilimnik was inspired by the world of theater, placing a Miss Dior bottle around white and blue flowers and even clouds! A tiny “Alice in Wonderland”-style set, her work truly had a magical feel.

My favorite piece is Joana Vasconcelos’ giant knot, which measures over 3 meters and is made up of no fewer than 1,665 perfume bottles! The bottles were fitted with red and pink LEDs, allowing the knot to change color. An imposing work of art that leaves no one indifferent.

Christian Dior dresses were also on display, as well as jewelry, sketches and paintings by friends of the couturier, as art was an important part of Christian Dior’s life (before he became a designer, Dior owned an art gallery).

The exhibition was really as interesting as it was beautiful, a shame it didn’t last longer, but that’s what makes it even more “precious”.
