RUI’s new Spring/Summer 2024 collection, entitled “Absent”, is an exploration of the duality between inside and outside, reflecting the nuances of human existence in the face of nature. Presented in the heart of Paris in a glass solarium, the collection weaves a complex, symbiotic relationship between the individual and his or her environment.
RUI’s designs for Spring 2024 are captivatingly bold, with evocative elements such as “horns” sprouting from the garments, suggesting a tension between proximity and aggression from the outside world. These thorn-like protuberances reach out beyond the silhouettes, delimiting a space where the human meets the otherness of nature.
The materials chosen for this collection are a tactile dialogue between man and nature: insect prints in symmetrical patterns, fabrics evoking snakeskin, linear cut-outs and a fine mesh, illustrating the diversity of living things and the complexity of interactions between species.
The philosophy behind “Absent” lies in the metaphor of “thorns” as a symbol of resistance and curiosity. Man, ever more intrusive in the natural environment, ends up becoming an object of observation for nature itself. RUI invites us to reflect on our place in the ecosystem and the impact of our actions.
The event unveiling the RUI SS24 collection becomes a temporary theater where each participant – model, spectator, red-eyed intruder – plays a role in a lively, ephemeral staging. Old furniture hidden beneath sand, hanging draperies and dust particles animated by the models’ movements create a space where reality and illusion merge.
Recurring themes of duality and unity are found in the coexistence of an inner world with invisible boundaries and an outer space without limits. In this intersection, the viewer is invited to observe a world at once magnificent and chaotic, a spiritual desert where humanity loses itself and finds itself again.
The cast of this collection is as diverse and captivating as the pieces themselves, with talents ranging from Alici, Anais and Emily to Tara. Their strolls, orchestrated by choreographer Mès Lesne, bring RUI’s artistic vision to life.
