LG Watch Urbane: the new connected watch

Part 5LG Electronics (LG) has announced the start of the global launch of its top-of-the-range LG Watch Urbane, this week in South Korea.

This launch will be followed by key markets in North America, Europe and Asia over the coming weeks. Consumers in France, Germany, Australia, Canada, Korea, Spain, the United States, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom will be able to buy the LG Watch Urbane from the Google Store from April.

At MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2015, the LG Watch Urbane stood out for its modern design, circular Plastic OLED screen and practicality. While the eyes of the world are on the Apple Watch, LG’s connected watch still manages to stand out.

Part 3

Responding to consumers’ desire to combine style and functionality, the LG Watch Urbane features an all-metal case accompanied by a genuine stitched leather strap. The stainless steel case is available in rose gold or silver. The rather rare bracelet can be replaced by any 22 mm leather, silicone or metal strap for maximum practicality and customization.

Another innovation is that it is the first connected watch to feature the very latest version of Android Wear, working perfectly with all smartphones running Android 4.3 and above. Some of the features available include Wi-Fi connectivity, and “always-on” applications that prevent the screen from turning off when you’re running, for example.

The latest operating system lets users send emojis by drawing them directly on the LG Watch Urbane. Draw a smiley face, a clock showing a certain time or any other drawing, and Android Wear will find the closest match in Unicode emoji to send it to another Android Wear watch, smartphone or computer.

Part 4

Two useful new features unseen on other Android Wear devices are present on the new watch: LG Call and LG Pulse. LG Call enables users to access their latest calls and list of favorite contacts on the connected smartphone, so they can make calls directly from the watch. When connected to a Bluetooth headset, there’s no need to remove the smartphone from the pocket to make a call. LG Pulse takes health monitoring to a whole new level by measuring the user’s heart rate every second during sporting activity, with no maximum time limit.

The LG Watch Urbane will be available in France in its silver finish from the end of April at a retail price of €349.
